Hello scrappy friends! Today I have a fun mixed media layout to share with you that I created for The Ink Road. This layout took actually a completely different turn that I originally had in mind but it ended up being an extremely fun process and I have to say I’m quiet pleased with the result.
By the way let me remind you that you can use the code “ZINIA10” at theinkroad.com to get 10% discount for any purchase!
So since I don’t really want to tire you with all the random bit that didn’t end up in the final layout, I’ll only talk about the things that worked in the end but if you are curious you can just watch the process video for more info on the things that didn’t work.
So the first thing was to add some mists on my background. I didn’t really prep my page with gesso, I just went with it and luckily in the end my page didn’t buckle a lot. I really prefer working on clean surface when I use sprays because I want the ink to soak into the paper without resisting so I can build up layers of colors easier. The colors I used were Color Shine in Salmon, Distress Stain in Worn Lipstick and Tattered Angels Simply Sheer in Pink, Aqua and Teal. To add my colors I just lifted my page vertically and sprayed at the top. I added water to make the ink flow and drip and wiped of any excess so it wouldn’t smudge.
For my layout design I went with a vertical grid using some lovely frames that were in the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Free Spirit collection ephemera pack. I also used some bits from the cut apart sheet of the same collection. I didn’t have something specific in mind, I just added little bits and bobs as I was going.
I cut two thin strips of pattern paper and added them to the right side of my vertical grid just to bring in and bit more of that navy color. I actually used the Teal Tattered Angels mist to paint on top of the tiny floral pattern so the color would match perfectly.
The finishing touch was to add some ink splatters using black ink. After I added them I decided that I needed a bit more black to balance it so I used the alpha stickers of the Free Spirit collection and painted them using the same black ink I used for the splatters.
