Hello everyone! This post will be a little different from my usual ones. After the recent announcement of the new Get Messy Creative Team (still can’t believe I’m in! yay!) we thought it would be fun to create a blog hop where we will share our art journaling journeys.
So let’s get back to when it all started. Before I singed up for Get Messy, I didn’t really know what exactly art journaling is about. I was seeing pages here and there but didn’t realize everything about it. I thought about it more as another form of scrapbooking. At the end of January 2015, I saw a promotion post of Caylee Grey’s instagram about Get Messy pre-registration and since I was already a big fan of Caylee’s work I thought why not, it’s a lifetime membership anyway.
So just like that I got into this community but I didn’t know how amazing it is until after a few months. During the first couple of seasons I’ve struggled to get myself started. I was only making a couple of spreads throughout the whole month and I wasn’t very happy with them either. It was only after I decided to participate in Get Messy Thursdays that I started finding myself. Get Messy Thursdays as the name suggests is a challenge to share our art journal pages every Thursday.
This was my first GM Thursdays page. It was very minimalistic but I started realizing how much I enjoy making simple pages and playing around with the white space. Being part of that challenge “forced” me to create something every single week and actually share it with everyone else too. If I wasn’t determined to keep up with this challenge I would have skipped so many weeks and I would have buried so many pages beneath my bed. Creating this habit and consistently making art helped me find my style and be more comfortable with the different mediums I was using.
I posted my first Get Messy Thursdays page half a year ago. And since that day I’ve been consistently creating every single week. Page by page I get more and more confident with my art and with myself.
To me, art journaling is my ultimate form of creative freedom. I really love how there’s no right and wrong way to do it and how people create completely different pages using the exact same prompts. It’s really fascinating.
On top of all that, I feel honored to be part of the Get Messy community cause it’s really a bunch of the most talented and inspiring ladies I’ve ever met. Everyone is so kind and welcoming and that was most likely the main factor that helped me crack out of my shell. I still remember my “yay” when my first page got regramed on the Get Messy instagram account and the lovely comments from everyone.
I’m really honored and thrilled to be part of this Creative Team and continue growing through art journaling. Make sure to pay a visit to these amazingly talented ladies and show them some love cause they totally deserve it <3
